Intro to Get It Beauty

If you’re a fan of Korean beauty products and you want to keep up with the latest tips and trends from experts in Korea, Get It Beauty is the show to watch! We’ll be starting a new series of posts where we highlight the latest beauty tips, trends, and products showcased on Get It Beauty.

Get It Beauty is the OnStyle channel’s beauty talk show that first aired in 2010 with former S.E.S. member, Eugene, as the show’s host. One of our favorite parts of the show are the blind tests where the hosts and the audience test and rank products from a variety of brands without knowing the identity of the brands. This is a great way to fairly judge the performance of a product without brand bias.

Typically there is a fall session and a spring session of the show and since most of 2015 has already passed, we will be starting our posts with the 2015 fall session of Get It Beauty.

Miss Korea’s Mandy Makeup Routine

In the Get It Beauty episode that aired on July 29, 2015, the 2015 Miss Korea Jin, Lee Min Ji, started off raving about her favorite product that she learned about from Get It Beauty. She mentioned that when she applied it before going to bed at night, her skin always feels highly moisturized and her makeup applies well the next morning.

The producers at Get It Beauty typically blur out the fronts of the products shown on the show, but luckily it’s usually not too hard to identify the products. The product she uses is the Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream.

Lee Min Ji then shared her simple routine for her everyday makeup routine that she named after herself—Mandy Makeup. Her English name is Mandy. The Mandy Makeup routine focuses on covering dark circles and emphasizing your aegyo sal (애교살), which are the fatty deposits under your eyes. In Korea, aegyo sal is thought to make your face appear more attractive and youthful while also making your eyes appear bigger.

Mandy’s first tip was to use a shade of foundation that is one tone darker than your actual skin tone. She applied this dark foundation around her jaw line for a contouring effect. The foundation that she used was the Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation.

The next step in the Mandy Makeup routine was to use a second foundation that is one shade lighter than you skin tone and apply it to your entire face to help make your face appear brighter.

She suggested applying foundation with a foundation brush and using long strokes in order to avoid leaving streaks on your face. The second foundation that she used was the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation.

You should avoid applying foundation to your dark circles because you will have to apply concealer on them later and layering could cause the makeup on your dark circles to become too thick.

After applying the two foundations, she applied several lines of concealer on the back of her hand and then used a sponge to apply the concealer to her dark circles. She recommended avoiding application on your aegyo sal or else you would risk making your eyes appear smaller. The concealer that she used was the Giorgio Armani High Precision Retouch.

The next step in the Mandy Makeup routine involves applying a mix of light and dark eyeshadows to your eyelids. Mandy chose light and reddish toned eyeshadows to use because she said that brown eyeshadows make her complexion appear dull. The eyeshadow that she used is the NARS Trio Eyeshadow, Ramatuelle.

Before applying eyeliner, she curled her eyelashes from the roots. She mentioned that if your eyelashes are long at the ends like hers, then she would advise using a point curler to curl the ends a bit more.

When applying eyeliner, Mandy suggested raising the end of the line at the edge of your eye to make your eyes look brighter.

Since her eyes are round, following the shape of her eyes with the eyeliner would lead to drawing the line downwards, which would give her a sad look. To avoid this, she slightly raises the end of the line at the edge of her eye. The gel eyeliner that she used is the eSpoir Gel Eyeliner.

To emphasize her aegyo sal, Mandy said that all you need to do is to apply the same light eyeshadow that you used for your eyelids and apply it onto your aegyo sal. Make sure to smile when you are applying the eyeshadow and apply more on the inner edges of your aegyo sal!

The final step is to use a light brown eyeliner to draw on your waterline to make your eyes vivid and clear.

We're not sure what brand the eyeliner is that Mandy used to apply on her waterline, but try our Holika Holika Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliners that we carry in fourteen colors!

Here is the before and after! What do you think? Will you try the Mandy Makeup routine at home?

Perhaps the most important tip that Mandy gives is at the end of her segment when she says that beauty is confidence. We agree! Be confident because YOU are beautiful! :)

At the end of each Get It Beauty episode, the Better Girls (the name for the audience that participates in each show), receive a special gift. The gift from this episode was the Eye Contouring Refining Cream, Anti Wrinkle Moisturizer, and Pore-Refining Facial Tonic from eaurganic.
